SIMONS ISLAND, Ga.Indias Ravichandran Ashwin says experimenting with his bowling in Tests will help him improve still further as a spinner. Ashwin, 30, had a modest first Test against England by his own stellar standards - match figures of 3-230 little reward for 69.3 overs of toil on an easy-paced Rajkot surface. The 30-year-old changed his action in the second innings and, in an interview with Sky Sports, he explained that innovation is one of the secrets of a career that so far has yielded 21 five-wicket hauls. Im really hungry in terms of how much I want to achieve as a cricketer, said Ashwin, who has taken 223 Test scalps in 40 Tests. England rallied strongly in Rajkot after their Dhaka debacle so what can we expect in Vizag? Its not about any specific number; if I get on a bit of a roll, then I dont really want to settle for anything; I just want to keep going and going and going. The wicket [in Rajkot] was easy pace and I wanted to create some sort of pace into my action, so I tried to be a little slingy and load it up differently. Six months half price Upgrade to Sky Sports to watch Man Utd v Arsenal on Saturday and get the first six months half price There have been instances in the past when I have seen a lot of cricketers try so many things in the nets but dont quite have the stomach to do it in the middle.Im the other way around. Id much rather try it in a game than in the nets because thats where you are under pressure. All great men do it when it matters rather than when it doesnt. Ashwin cuts on the fourth day of the first Test In addition to his role of talismanic spinner, Ashwin has recently added the role of number six to his duties and is thriving in the position - scoring 70 and 32 in the first Test.As far as Im concerned, I love to be in the middle of the action, he said. I am also one of those persons who likes to win games for the team, rather than being at the back door trying to pick up a couple of wickets.Personally, I have been craving to bat up the order for the last two or three years and the opportunity presented itself to me in the last three months and I think Ive taken it with both hands. To hear more from Ashwin, click on the video above for the full interview, which includes…- what its like to have Anil Kumble as coach and how the pair worked together during the first Test- the major differences between being captained at Test level by former skipper MS Dhoni and current captain Virat Kohli Test Cricket: The Verdict November 17, 2016, 3:00pm Live on Get Sky Sports Get a Sky Sports pass - How the team responded to the draw in Rajkot and how he assesses his own performance in the drawn TestWatch continued coverage of the second Test between India and England live on Sky Sports 2 or follow over-by-over commentary, including in-play video clips of all the key moments, on our live blog across selected digital platforms.
